THWT Summer 2008 Technology Workshops

We are grateful that our Summer 2007 technology workshops completely sold out and were so well received by participants. We are excited to announce that our Summer 2008 educational technology workshops are open for registration:

Each participant will receive a copy of Best Ideas for Teaching with Technology: A Practical Guide for Teachers by Teachers, co-authored by lead-instructor Tom Daccord.

These workshops offer classroom teachers, school technology staff, and library-media specialists a great opportunity to explore ways of using technology to enrich the curriculum and engage students. Each participant will be supplied with a computer for the duration of the workshop and have extended "hands-on" time to master the information and skills presented. In addition,

Instructor Profiles

Tom Daccord

The "Teaching History With Technology" and "Teaching with Web 2.0" workshops will be taught by Tom Daccord, educational technology specialist and author of Best Ideas for Teaching with Technology: A Practical Guide for Teachers by Teachers and The Best of History Web Sites. A vetertom head shotan "laptop teacher" who has instructed in a wireless laptop environment for the last seven years, Tom has been featured in the Boston Globe ("Making Tech Connect," December 29, 2003) for his contributions to teaching with technology. He has presented on educational technology topics at the National Association of Independent Schools Annual Conference, the National Council for Social Studies Annual Confernce, the (Alan) November Boston Leadership Conference, the Laptop Institute in Memphis, the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools Technology Conference, and various other conferences. He has served as a consultant to the WGBH American Experience New Media team and is creator and co-webmaster of Best of History Web Sites, an award-winning portal that receives upwards of 125,000 visitors per month and two million visitors a year. He is also co-director of The Center for Teaching History with Technology, an organization with 2100 subscribers, whose mission is to help K-12 history and social studies teachers incorporate technology effectively into their courses. In addition, Tom is the creator and webmaster of "Teaching Literature & Writing With Technology," designed to help English and Language Arts teachers incorporate technology effectively into their courses.

Carla Beard

The "Teaching English and Language Arts With Technology" workshop will be co-taught by Tom Daccord and Carla Beard. Carla is a veteran English teacher and educational technology specialist for the state of Indiana who has presented at conventions and workshops nationally. Ms. Beard is creator and webmaster of the award-winnincarla beardg Web English Teacher, a popular web portal that presents the best of K-12 English / Language Arts teaching resources: lesson plans, WebQuests, videos, biography, e-texts, criticism, classroom activities and more. Ms. Beard has written and presented extensively on technology in the English/Language Arts curriculum, including a National Council of Teachers of English presentation entitled "Technology and English/Language Arts." In 2004 she was named to the Educator Advisory Board of AOL@School and has also served as National Teacher Advisor for Cable in the Classroom. She has also evaluated National Endowment for the Humanities grant applications in technology. Currently the English Department Chair at Connersville High School in Indiana, Ms. Beard has converted all English/Language Arts classrooms at her school to computer classrooms and regularly leads inservice sessions on using technology effectively.

"Teaching History With Technology" Workshop

The sixth-annual "Teaching History With Technology Workshop" is an intensive three-day "hands-on" opportunity for history and social studies teachers and professors to explore practical ways to use technology to enrich the history curriculum and engage students. The workshop will explore innovative ideas, effective techniques, and ready-made plans for incorporating Web-based resources, desktop software packages and new and emerging technologies into classroom instruction of history. The workshop will be held at the Noble and Greenough School in Greater Boston. Each participant will be supplied with a computer for the duration of the workshop and have extended "hands-on" time to master the information and skills presented.

Class begins at 9am and ends at 3:30 pm. Space is limited in order to maximize individual attention. Cost is $595.00. Professional development credits are available from the state of Massachusetts.

The workshop will be held at the Noble and Greenough School in Greater Boston. Each participant will be supplied with a computer for the duration of the workshop and have extended "hands-on" time to master the information and skills presented.

Class begins at 9am and ends at 3:30 pm. Space is limited in order to maximize individual attention. Cost is $595.00. Professional development credits are available from the state of Massachusetts.

"Teaching with Web 2.0" Workshop

Our new "Teaching with Web 2.0" workshop is an intensive three-day "hands-on" opportunity for classroom teachers, school technology staff, and library-media specialists to explore practical ways to use Web 2.0 ("read/write") tools in the classroom. It is aimed at teachers and others who are relatively comfortable with technology and represents a logical "step up" for any teacher who has taken any of our other workshops! The workshop will explore innovative established and beta tools that enhance interactivity and collaboration. The workshop will be held at the Noble and Greenough School in Greater Boston. Each participant will be supplied with a computer for the duration of the workshop and have extended "hands-on" time to master the information and skills presented.

Class begins at 9am and ends at 3:30 pm. Space is limited in order to maximize individual attention. Cost is $595.00. Professional development credits are available from the state of Massachusetts.
